Built around 1860, this detached house was once the dwelling place for the Minister from the adjacent Free Church, which is still open and has services every Thursday and Sunday | |
| Nowadays the house is a fully modernised and comfortable private home in a picturesque setting, a short distance from Staffin Bay with its sandy beach. The coastline is, in fact, world famous for the amazing fossils that are constantly being brought to the surface, due to the slow, perpetual erosion of the Trotternish landslip. The Jurassic rocks of this area have thrown up dinosaur bones and footprints, some of which can be seen at the Geological Museum, a five minute drive from the house. | ![]() |

Views from The Old Mission House take in the Quiraing and the mountains of the Trotternish Ridge. The fantastic rock formations of the nearby Quiraing should be viewed at close quarters, where you will find the scenery at once magnificent and almost supernatural. Many species of birds of prey, including Golden Eagles, are to be found in these cliffs |
| The beautiful crofting village of Staffin is also noted for its striking rocky shoreline and its richness of coastal wildlife. Nearby is Kilt Rock, a cliff stratified with alternate vertical and horizontal bands giving the impression of tartan, with its neighbouring high sea cliffs where magnificent waterfalls can be seen crashing to the sea. The Sea Eagle has its eyrie on one of these lonely stretches of cliffs. | ![]() |

| Boat trips from Staffin Bay afford you a closer look at the marine wildlife of the area and this is certainly the best way to appreciate the marvel of the rock and cliff formations around this ethereal coastline. |
|
Only 16 miles from Portree, Staffin also has 2 general stores, cafe/restaurant (with internet access) and a post office. There is a bus service from Portree to Staffin, with the bus stop no distance at all from the house. |
